Cha am weather

Cha am weather is typically tropical and hot all year round. The year can be split into two distinct seasons, the wet season and the dry season, with the dry season split between cool - dry and hot - dry.

Approximate dates are:

Cool dry - November to February

Hot dry - March to April

Wet season - May to October

Cool dry - during this period, you can expect mainly blue skies, with less humidity and cooler nights. December and January are the best months. Early November usually gets some rain as the monsoon moves south and the skies start to clear. Average temperatures are 25/26 C during the day, dropping to around 18/20 C at night.

Hot dry - Humidity starts to build up during this time. With the humidity, the temperatures rise and days and nights become hot and sticky. Expect some afternoon showers starting in April and increasing during May. Average temperatures are 28/33 C during the day, not dropping much to around 24/25 C at night.

Wet season - The rains arrive, and bring some relief from the humidity. Rain tends to fall in the late afternoon and early evening. Expect overcast mornings, some clear skies later on, then the build up of black clouds over the mountains in Myanmar, which brings the rains, usually in the late afternoon or early evening. Average temperatures are 28/32 C during the day, dropping to around 22/25 C at night. October is usually the wettest month with an average 211mm of rain. June and July receive on average only 84mm and 94mm of rain, with long dry periods. August is similar but with slightly higher rainfall of 96mm. So when's the best time to visit Cha am?

Well, the answer to that is anytime! Each season has it's own advantages and disadvantages, so don't let the Cha am weather put you off. The area including Hua hin, Pranburi and Phetchaburi has one of the most favourable climates in Thailand, hence the many palaces built by the Royal family in the area.

The peak season here is during the cool dry period, due to the favourable climate conditions. However, prices for hotels are at there highest during this period, and attractions are more crowded.

During the hot dry season, hotel prices start to come down a little and attractions are less busy due to the heat and humidity. Many people from Bangkok come here at this time to escape the heat of the city and catch some cooling sea breezes. Also, the major festival in Thailand happens in April, Songkran, the Thai new year.

The rainy season can be a good time to visit, as hotel prices are at their lowest, beaches and attractions are virtually empty, and very rarely does it rain all day or everyday. June, July and August are the best months, with long periods of fine weather.
