Cha am Nature Trail - Khao Nang Phanthurat

view over cha am

If your in need of a bit of exercise, take a walk in the hills along the Cha am nature trail,Khao Nang Phanthurat Park, where you can see some of the local flora and fauna and get a great view over the coastline.

There is a small visitors centre near the car park, where you can get a copy of the route, and look at pictures of some of the wildlife in the area.

Even if you don't want to walk up the hill, it's still worth a visit just to sit in the flower planted garden and take in the scenery.

The trail itself has 3 and a half km of tracks, that take you up to a viewpoints over both the coast and inland, then down into valleys. At times you have to clamber over some rocky parts, but most of the time, steps have been cut out to help you up the hills.Along the way you can see tropical birds, butterflies and you will probably hear the strange call of a local troupe of Langurs ( monkeys ) who wander the hills feeding and if your in the right place at the right time, you will get to see them.

Take plenty of water with you, as it can get pretty hot on the climbs, plus wear some shoes that have got a bit of grip on them. Something else you may want, is some bug spray. During and for a while after the wet season, there are plenty of mosquitoes to feast on you, while you take a bit of rest in the shade.

Directions - how to get there - Cha am nature trail ( Khao Nang Phanthurat ) is 10 km away from Cha am beach. Leaving the beach, head up Narathip road and turn right, about 200 metres before the traffic lights, onto the road signposted to Puek Tian. Follow this road, past the hospital and over the draw bridge. At this point you can see the hills on your left, so just follow this road ( don't turn right to Puek Tian after the bridge). When you come to a T junction, turn left and just before you get into the hills, there is a crossroads, turn left here for a few hundred metres, then take a right into the park.
