Cha am has long been a getaway from Bangkok for Thais, so there are all kinds of Cha am accommodation available. During the week life is very quiet, while at the weekends many Thai families head to the beach and during public holidays, especially Songkran, the Thai new year, it seems the whole of Bangkok heads this way!

Guest houses

With Cha am guest houses, you get what you pay for. Many will have signs outside with the various room prices listed. Basic fan rooms are the cheapest, then you pay extra for air conditioning, T.V, hot water etc.

The cheaper rooms start at around 200 Baht a night and tend to be down the Soi's running off from the beach road. For around 400 Baht up, you can find nice rooms with aircon.

There is no real reason to book a guest house before you arrive unless you are arriving for the Thai new year, Songkran, when the town fills to the brim and prices double or even triple. Just turn up, wander around and find a room that suits your budget. If you are looking for budget accommodation, avoid the area around the larger hotels as they tend to be a bit more pricey. Also, some guest houses raise their prices at weekends so better to turn up on a weekday. Don't forget to negotiate for the price - the longer you stay the more discount you can get.

Hotels and Resorts

There a many international standard hotels and resorts in the area.

Hotels in the town itself are all built along the beach road, offering superb sea views and surrounded by a wide choice of restaurants.

If you want to get away from it all, then head to the hotels to the south or north of town. These hotels all have direct beach access and are very peaceful, even at weekends.
